Objective of STAR is the development of a TT&C (Telemetry & Telecommand Communication) prototype equipment based on SDR (Software Defined Radio) techniques for use on small satellites (<1000 kg).

The equipment proposed is characterized by:

  • inclusion of all the functions necessary for the transmission of TT&C signals to/from ground stations, with the exception the antenna and the RF section, in one FPGA;

  • minimization of the radio frequency section;

  • improved flexibility in terms of interfaces, modulating frequency, types of modulations, data rates;

  • reuse of architecture for different applications (including radar and navigation)

The RF section can have different configurations in relation to the transmission frequency. In applications of low frequency (VHF) it may consist only of power amplifiers (in transmission) and low noise (receiving) and antennas with related protection filter.

The project makes use a synthesizable VHDL processor LEON3.
